Turnstiles and face recognition in school

Turnstile devices connect to the EduSchool panel and students are synchronised to them by face in bulk. Every entry and exit is recorded in real time, the parent gets an SMS, and attendance lands in the register by itself.

Turnstiles usually get installed for security, but in practice the biggest gain is elsewhere: the attendance data becomes trustworthy. On a paper roll call a late student can be marked present, and figures can be quietly smoothed out at month end. A turnstile timestamp cannot be rewritten.

EduSchool treats the turnstile not as a standalone device but as the attendance source for the whole system. A student walks through the door — the register fills in, the parent is notified, the late-arrivals report updates. Here is how it works and what to watch for.

Which devices connect

The system works with Hikvision face-recognition terminals and similar hardware. The device joins the school network and holds a two-way link with the panel: the panel pushes faces to the device, the device returns pass-through events.

Students and staff are loaded onto the device through bulk synchronisation — there is no need to enrol each person separately. A newly admitted student appears on the device at the next sync automatically; a student who leaves is removed.

  • Face-based identification — no lost-card problem
  • Multiple entry points and multiple branches in one panel
  • If the link drops, events synchronise afterwards
  • Staff attendance is collected from the same devices

Attendance: the register fills itself

In the settings you choose the attendance source: the register or the turnstile. With the turnstile selected, teachers stop taking roll call — if the student came through the door, the register already reads “present”. That saves tens of minutes a day and removes the human factor.

Late arrivals and early departures are flagged separately. You set the school start time and the tolerated lateness window; passes after it are recorded as late and roll up into a summary report by class and by student.

  • Entry and exit times to the second
  • Summary report on late arrivals and early departures
  • How many students are in the building right now — a live figure
  • Violations kept as a separate list

The parent is notified instantly

The moment a student passes the turnstile the parent is notified: a push in the EduSchool Parent app, and an SMS for those who have not installed it. Messages go out through Eskiz.uz or PlayMobile — the provider is your choice.

In practice this quiets the front desk: nobody asks “did my child get to school” any more, because the answer is already on the parent’s phone.

Debt threshold and blocking

The turnstile can be wired to finance: you set a debt threshold and a student above it is stopped at the gate. It is a hard measure, so schools normally enable it gradually and alongside warning SMS.

For individual cases there is a blocklist: a specific person is denied entry and the attempt is logged. Reasons and blocking history are retained.

  • Debt threshold by amount or by number of days
  • Automatic warning SMS before blocking
  • Blocklist and a log of entry attempts
  • Exception list: students the threshold does not apply to

Reports

Turnstile data rolls up into its own reports: daily entries and exits, late arrivals, early departures, violations and attendance rate. Each filters by class, branch and period, and exports to Excel.

The breakdown principals use most is the branch comparison: where lateness is climbing, where attendance has slipped. Those figures are visible every day, not at month end.

Staff attendance and access control

Turnstiles are not only for students. The same devices record staff arrival and departure times, and that feeds payroll directly — lateness and days worked are no longer counted by hand. Principals often find this the unexpected win: you can even see how early a teacher arrives before a lesson.

Entry points can be split by purpose: a staff door, a student door and an administration-only corridor are each configured separately. Who may pass at each point is governed by permissions, and an attempt without permission is logged.

  • Staff attendance feeds payroll automatically
  • Every entry point is named and configured separately
  • A log of unauthorised attempts — who, when and where
  • Temporary access for guests and external contractors

How installation works

  1. 01

    Choosing devices

The model is picked based on the number of entry points and student flow. If you already own Hikvision devices, we connect those.

  2. 02

    Network connection

The device joins the school network and pairs with the panel. Each entry point is named separately.

  3. 03

    Face synchronisation

The student and staff database is pushed to the device in one operation. We check photo quality in advance.

  4. 04

    Switching the attendance source

After a trial week the turnstile is enabled as the attendance source and the register starts filling automatically.

Frequently asked questions

Do you sell the turnstiles yourselves?
We provide the integration. You can buy the hardware yourself or through a supplier we recommend — either way, connection and configuration are on us.
Does recognition work with a mask or glasses?
Modern terminals handle glasses without trouble. Accuracy drops with a mask, so in those cases a fallback method — card or PIN — is enabled on the device.
Where are student photos stored?
Photos are held in the school’s own database and on the device, and are not passed to third parties. When a student leaves, the data is removed from the device.
What happens if the internet goes down?
The device keeps working offline and stores passes in its own memory. Once the link is back, events synchronise to the panel — no pass is lost.
Can attendance run without turnstiles?
Yes, register-based attendance is fully functional. If turnstiles arrive later, switching the source is a single setting.
